Patrick Mahomes loves what he’s seeing from his receivers at training camp

Denny Medley- After Friday’s practice, Kansas City’s quarterback gushed over this season’s pass-catchers Following Friday’s fifth training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes updated reporters on his receivers' progress thus far. Hollywood Brown When the team signed him in free agency, the quarterback knew that Brown was fast. But he has been pleasantly surprised by what a complete receiver he is. “No one told me like how much he can actually do on the football field,” admitted Mahomes. “He can run those over-the-middle routes. He can run really good routes— and he can run deep. It’s not like ‘fast’ is the only thing that he can do.” If this sounds like good news for Chiefs fans and a bad dream for the rest of the league, then brace yourself: Mahomes thinks Brown is still ascending as an athlete. “He keeps getting better and better.” Rashee Rice Rice led the team

Chiefs Studios Features: Mahomes says Raiders’ troll job ‘will get handled when it gets handled’

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Getty Images Chiefs headlines for Saturday, July 27 The latest Mahomes responds to Raiders’ Kermit doll: ‘It’ll get handled when it gets handled’ | NFL.com A Raiders fan dressed up a Kermit doll to look like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — whose voice has been compared to that of the famous Muppets character. A video of rookie safety Trey Taylor at training camp on Thursday joking with the puppet went viral on social media before being deleted — but not before Kansas City fans noticed. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was asked about the video on Friday. “Yeah, I mean, it’s still early in the year. Stuff like that happens,” he said. “It’ll get handled when it gets handled.” K.C. heads to Vegas in Week 8 to play the Raiders before hosting their division rival on Black Friday (Nov. 29). Mahomes said he wasn’t sent the video and, most of the time, he’s able to just focus on his job. “No, not really, honestly. Everyb

Joshua Williams embracing competition at starting cornerback: ‘I want it’

Photo by Lauren Leigh Bacho/Getty Images Kansas City’s third-year corner is ready to fill the void in the team’s secondary. In 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs boasted one of the NFL’s top-ranked defenses — largely due to the phenomenal play of their secondary. But the trade of star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans left a significant void among the team’s defensive backs. While plenty of talented Kansas City players are focused on grabbing Sneed’s starting role, third-year corner Joshua Williams is embracing the competition — and is determined to win it. “I’m approaching it like I want it,” Williams announced to reporters after Wednesday’s training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. “I saw they do, too. They’re great athletes. They’re great competitors. They’re all professionals. I’m sure we’re all attacking [it] the same way — but 100%, I want it. I’m going to do everything I need to do to step in there and continue to compete

Chiefs Studios Features: Chiefs Tight End makes All-21st Century team

Byron Hetzler- Chiefs headlines for Thursday, July 18 The latest Picking NFL’s 21st Century All-Star Team | Bleacher Report TE: Tony Gonzalez This is actually a pretty interesting battle between Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce, but I think recency bias gives the latter two a little too much credit. Gonzalez was a first-team All-Pro five times (compared to four for the other two guys) and his 14 Pro Bowl nods ranks second in league history (behind only Brady). NFL season is 50 days away: 50 under-the-radar players who could shape the 2024 season | CBS Sports 20. Wanya Morris (LT), Chiefs: Protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blind side is no small task, and this year, it seems like it will fall to Morris. He hardly played in his rookie season, but when he did play, it wasn’t pretty: His 9% pressure rate allowed was 12th highest among 195 players who had at least 100 pass-blocking snaps. The Chiefs could yet sign a veteran — last year’s starter, Donovan Smith

Despite back-to-back championships, Chiefs are coming into training camp hungry

Photo by Kathryn Riley/Getty Images This team has a knack for staying focused on what’s next. On the podium celebrating the victory in Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes turned to defensive tackle Chris Jones and told him, “We’re not done, dog. I want three, no one has ever gotten three... I want back to back to back.” It was a ridiculous thing to say at the moment — one typically reserved for basking in the confetti that represents the culmination of a long, challenging season. It’s OK to relax on that stage, to breathe a sigh of relief that the journey's hardships paid off. That’s not how Mahomes’ mind works, and it isn’t just talk. The two-time MVP still constantly strives to improve his on-field performance. Head coach Andy Reid loves that about his quarterback, speaking to it with reporters after arriving at Chiefs’ training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, on Tuesday. “The one great thing about Patrick is that he’s always going

Chiefs’ training camp observations from Rookie Day 1

The Kansas City Chiefs got onto the practice field at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph on Wednesday morning, conducting the first practice session of the team’s 2024 training camp. Wednesday’s practice was limited to rookies, quarterbacks and a smattering of other players — most of them returning from injuries. There will be three such sessions (the other two on Thursday and Friday mornings) before the rest of the team reports on Friday afternoon. The first full practice (which will be open to the public) will take place on Sunday morning. Earlier, we published a list of those who were present, which included injured veterans Derrick Nnadi and Jaylen Watson.
