Matthew Stafford's injury more than a 'little something'? Sean McVay explains

It remains unclear if Matthew Stafford will return to practice this week as he continues to deal with a hamstring injury. (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times) That tightness in quarterback Matthew Stafford's hamstring? The twinge Rams coach Sean McVay described as a "little something" initially? It's looming as a larger issue. Stafford was sidelined for most of the last two practices and McVay said Sunday that he was "not sure" if the 36-year-old Stafford would practice this week. "He can throw and do some of those things," McVay said during a videoconference with reporters. "As far as just some of the movement, if he's feeling good, we haven't decided that yet. "The arrow is pointing up and he's feeling good as it relates to the hamstring tightness last week." 10 winners and 3 losers from the Chiefs preseason loss to the Lions

It's the preseason, so the final score of the Kansas City Chiefs' 24-23 home loss to the Detroit Lions doesn't matter. The Chiefs' starters didn't play long — and several of their significant players were missing with injuries. Meanwhile, the Lions' starters didn't play at all. Still, there were a few moments during Saturday afternoon's game that we won't soon forget. There were also a couple of players we hope to forget if they don't make the roster. Here were some of the Kansas City players who stood out before Detroit won on a last-second field goal. Winners Photo by David Eulitt/Getty Images Punter Matt Araiza: The power in the Punt God's leg has never been in question — and on Saturday, he continued to boom kicks downfield. But his ability to aim directional kicks (or apply the right amount of touch) has been open to question. Well... Araiza had six opportunities against the Lions. He made the most of each one. Arrowheadlines: Lions do not intend on playing many starters against the Chiefs

The latest Chiefs playing starters vs. Lions, while Detroit to rest key players | Pride Of Detroit Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell has made it clear that the team doesn't intend to play many starters in the upcoming preseason bout with the Kansas City Chiefs. "We may get a couple of (starting) d-linemen going here against the Chiefs that didn't play last week. Offense is probably pretty set here," Campbell told 97.1 The Ticket on Wednesday. "The long and short of it, maybe a couple of guys. That's about it." That is going to be in pretty stark contrast of their opponents. Chiefs coach Andy Reid revealed on Thursday that he plans on playing their starters for about a half during Saturday's exhibition game. "As far as the play time goes, the ones will take a half and then we'll kind of fill in after that and just kind of see how the rest of that goes for the third and fourth quarters," Reid said in his morning press conferen

Patrick Mahomes Gets Honest About Challenge To 3-Peat

(Photo by Courtney Culbreath/Getty Images) For the majority of the 2023 NFL regular season, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs didn't resemble a team that could win it all, especially in a back-to-back scenario that Andy Reid and company faced. Despite looking like a team that might quickly flame out in the NFL playoffs, Patrick Mahomes and his squad turned it on once the postseason began in the same way they've been able to do in each championship run thus far. The Chiefs looked like an entirely different team in the playoffs as they made easy work of the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens in consecutive rounds, setting up a showdown with arguably the best team in the NFC in the Super Bowl. Although the San Francisco 49ers gave the Chiefs all they could handle in the big game, Kansas City was able to come out on top in overtime against Brock Purdy's squad, officially winning back-to-back Super Bowl titles. Heading into the 2024

Aubrey's 66-yard field goal in the Cowboys' 27-12 preseason win against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday night would have equaled the NFL record set by Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens on 2021. "Just kind of feels like nothing's quite there," Aubrey said. "Got a little bounce off of your foot, that it sticks onto your foot for like a fraction of a second and then it goes. Former NFL Receiver Would Have Issue As Player For Andy Reid

(Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images) The NFL can be absolutely brutal when it comes to players suffering injuries from game to game, and they are inevitable for every team due to the violent nature of the sport. Even though the league continues to try to protect its players as much as possible with new safety protocols and gear, as well as rule changes, injuries can't be eliminated and never will be. Star players around the league can go down from time to time during the NFL preseason, which obviously consists of games that have no bearing in terms of wins and losses that count. With these games essentially pointless outside of evaluating young players and getting veteran players up to speed, most aren't fond of playing in them as it seems like an unnecessary risk. Former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmanzadeh was asked what he thinks about legendary head coach Andy Reid playing his Kansas City Chiefs starters for the entire first half against the Detroit Lions recentl

Odds Show A Clear Favorite To Win AFC West

(Photo by Alex Burstow/Getty Images) Ever since the Kansas City Chiefs made superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes the starter under center, the storied franchise has been the team to beat in the AFC West division, with the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos doing everything in their power to try to catch up. Unfortunately for the three other teams in the division, no one has come close to even competing with the Chiefs for the division title, as Kansas City has dominated the competition in the AFC West as well as the conference in general, paving their way to three Super Bowl titles won in the Andy Reid era. With the Chiefs coming off back-to-back Super Bowl titles, it seems like it will be more of the same in the division heading into the 2024 NFL season, as Kansas City is a heavy favorite to win the division crown once again, according to NBC Sports Bet. Carson Steele wants to be the ‘Swiss army knife’ of the Chiefs’ offense

For the Kansas city Chiefs, the highlight of Saturday's 26-13 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener changed into undrafted rookie operating returned Carson Steele introducing himself to the NFL in bully-like fashion. Steele's first skilled raise featured two broken tackles and gained 20 yards. He then ended the power with a fourth-and-1 handoff for a touchdown. It changed into an emphatic debut for a participant who become listed as a fullback on the Chiefs' first unofficial depth chart. probably the most massive part of those highlights is that Steele changed into the single again in the formation. midway throughout the 2d quarter, he changed into the fourth working back to take the field. He ended up leading the crew in rushing makes an attempt and yards — and scored the crew's most effective landing of the night. After Monday's practising camp apply, Chiefs' head coach Andy Reid used Steele's performance to remind individu

Tuesday training camp notebook: Replacing Hollywood Brown (and more) from Matt Nagy

Kirby Lee- With Brown out for the next few weeks, Kansas City’s offensive coordinator discussed the team’s response. Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy addressed the media on Tuesday — Day 17 of full-team training camp practices at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. Nagy spoke to the press on a number of topics, beginning with the No. 1 story surrounding the Chiefs at the moment. What measures will Kansas City take now that wide receiver Hollywood Brown is out for the foreseeable future? Replacing Brown Brown suffered a sternoclavicular (collarbone) post dislocation during the Chiefs’ preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. At Tuesday’s padded practice, Nagy and the offensive staff gave veteran receiver Justin Watson more opportunities with the first team. “J-Wat has been so great,” said Nagy. “He’s invaluable in the fact of just understanding every spot. So for him to kind of know this offense where he’s at, steps right on in. W

Xavier Worthy ‘adapted to the game speed pretty well’ in Chiefs debut

Photo by Kevin Sabitus/Getty Images On Monday, Kansas City’s first-round wide receiver reflected on his first NFL experience against the Jaguars. On Saturday night, the Kansas City Chiefs’ rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy made his much-anticipated debut during the team’s 26-13 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener. With all the excitement surrounding Worthy’s blazing speed and playmaking ability, the Chiefs wasted no time before trying to showcase their first-round pick. On the very first offensive play, Worthy motioned into the slot to help him build momentum that could create an opening for a deep pass. But at the last second, the Jaguars’ defense shifted. It blitzed a cornerback toward Worthy while rotating a safety over the top of the speedy receiver. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes quickly recognized the change, finding an open pass to Hollywood Brown in the space vacated by the safety. “[The defense] rolled into Cover 1, so it took away my pla

Jaden Hicks ‘content’ with debut performance Saturday night

Nathan Ray Seebeck- On Monday, Kansas City’s rookie safety discussed the Jaguars game and showed appreciation for Justin Reid. Among the few bright spots in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 26-13 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Saturday’s preseason opener was the play of rookie safety Jaden Hicks. Taken out of Washington State with the 133rd selection in April’s NFL Draft, Hicks played 27 defensive snaps against the Jaguars (47%), totaling three tackles — one of them for a loss. Speaking after Monday’s practice at the team’s training camp at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Hicks was reasonably happy with how he played. “I would say I’m content with it,” he said of his performance. “There are some plays that I could have made — still plays to be out there. Overall, I think I did all right.” Hicks said he needs to keep pushing through and finishing. “Some plays,” he recalled, “I was getting a little tired, playing on special teams and stuff like that.

Chiefs Studios Features: Former Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is now a free agent

Chiefs headlines for Saturday, August 10 The latest How the Chiefs’ Louis Rees-Zammit is tackling the transition from rugby to the NFL | The Athletic (nytimes.com) “I can’t wait to see the difference,” Rees-Zammit said. His true “welcome to the NFL” moment, when the intensity level surprised him, came the morning of July 28, which was the Chiefs’ third consecutive padded practice. Rees-Zammit’s one-on-one drill that day was one every running back in the NFL has had to endure: The blitzing linebacker or safety charging into the backfield, the lone assignment for the running back is to prevent the defender from reaching the quarterback. Across from Rees-Zammit on the field was linebacker Cole Christiansen, who like Rees-Zammit is trying to earn one of the final spots on the Chiefs’ initial 53-man roster. With quarterback Patrick Mahomes holding the ball in the pocket, Christiansen attacked from the B gap. Upon impact, Rees-Zammit lost his leverage and found out just how badly he c
