Just before kickoff against the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City Chiefs extended tight end Noah Gray's contract, a significant move reflecting the team's trust in the veteran in his fourth year. Gray told Thursday's media that he was happy to be able to stay with the Chiefs long-term.
"I'm just grateful," he said, extending thanks to his agent and the team's front office. "Shout out to everybody who was involved with that... [I'm] just so grateful to be sticking around and having fun with the boys."
His appreciation for Kansas City extends to its fans and the community.
"We love the organization, we love the people here, [and] we love the fans," Gray said of his family. "From top to bottom, it's world-class."
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy also weighed in on Gray's extension, praising his skill set and reliability.
"His ability to be the U tight end and run routes and the Y tight end for us and block and be able to do both of them really well, I think, stands him apart from a lot of guys in this league," Nagy explained.
He also highlighted Gray's role on the team.
"I'm not sure if there's another player on the team that really is at the right spot at the right time within this offense than what Noah does."
Earlier this week, head coach Andy Reid emphasized Gray's value to everything the Chiefs like to do.
"He's a good football player, and he does a lot for us," said Reid. "He's one of those guys that doesn't get a whole lot of credit for all that he does, but [he's a] big-time special teams player, great tight end. We do a bunch of double-tight stuff, plus he's able to go in and spot [Travis] Kelce.
"He comes out of games with quite a few snaps because of the special teams. You know, he's a four-phase guy there, can do anything Dave [Toub] needs him to do there and is willing and he loves being here so – and a great guy on top of all that."
