Welcome to this week's edition of "Let's Argue," a recurring series about the hot takes, unpopular opinions and wacky predictions of some Kansas City Chiefs' fans.
Dave Merritt should coach up the Chiefs' current cornerbacksI can see both sides here.
Even while L'Jarius Sneed was on the team, we've seen defensive backs like Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams step up against elite competition in the biggest moments.
Having said that, I don't think it hurts to bring in a veteran — even if it's just as insurance. I really wanted general manager Brett Veach to sign Stephon Gilmore before he went to the Minnesota Vikings.
But the only two guys I'd be interested in right now would be Xavien Howard and Adoree Jackson.
We should be scared about the Chiefs' secondaryLast year, it was all about the wide receivers. This year, cornerbacks will be the hot topic of discussion.
But this post lumps the whole secondary together — and I disagree with that. Starting with Justin Reid and Bryan Cook, the safety group is very versatile and deep.
Then you have second-year defensive back Chamarri Conner, who showed plenty of flashes during his rookie campaign.
And speaking of rookies, everyone is raving about Jaden Hicks' upside. You can make a strong case that he was the defensive MVP during the preseason.
For me, the ultimate question is who will step up across from cornerback Trent McDuffie. It will be nearly impossible to replace Sneed's productivity — but in the Kansas City locker room, that's the expectation.
Felix Anudike-Uzomah will have a decent seasonThis is the downside of being a first-round pick: expectations are high.
Most draft experts didn't think Anudike-Uzomah would even be a first-rounder — although to be fair, the Chiefs took him with the final pick.
The fact that he is from Kansas City could also have something to do with the lofty expectations Chiefs Kingdom has for him.
Despite these expectations, his rookie campaign was very quiet; he barely saw the field. But considering last year's depth on the defensive line was a year ago, that shouldn't have been surprising. Besides, we knew it would take some time for Anudike-Uzomah to develop.
Entering Year 2, it's time for the Chiefs to see what they have. Since Charles Omenihu will miss at least the first quarter of the season, there should be plenty of opportunity for Anudike-Uzomah to step up.
Both Skyy Moore and Clyde Edwards-Helaire will make the teamI agree.
While most of the Kingdom probably wants both guys off the squad, I just don't see that happening.
Both are high-character guys — and both know the playbook.
I do believe, however, that there's a chance Edwards-Helaire will be pushed back behind Carson Steele on the depth chart.
As for Moore, he's shown the ability to be a quality return guy.
