Kansas City cornerback Jaylen Watson participated in a training camp practice for the first time this season.
On Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs conducted their ninth 2024 training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. After Monday’s light 10-10-10 session (and a day off on Tuesday), the team was back in pads on Wednesday.
Wide receiver Hollywood Brown (illness), running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) and defensive tackle Chris Jones (groin) were all back on the field. Cornerback Jaylen Watson — who has been on the team’s Active/PUP (physically-unable-to-perform) list since camp began — passed his physical. He came down the hill in pads and a helmet.
But this good news was followed by bad news. During practice, four Chiefs were injured. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney injured the lower part of his left leg after coming down awkwardly while making a catch. Three reserve players — offensives tackle Chu Godrick and McKade Mettauer and tight end Izaiah Gathings — all spent time in the injury tent. All four were carted up the hill to the locker room. All but Godrick rode in the front seat — although Godrick and Gathings were transported together.
After being absent on Monday, cornerback Nazeeh Johnson (hamstring) was present, but did not participate in drills. Wide receiver Justin Watson (foot) was once again absent.
That leaves us with those currently on either the Active/PUP or Active/NFI (non-football injury) lists. Safety Justin Reid (quad), defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi (triceps) and defensive end Charles Omenihu (ACL) were present but did not participate. Defensive end BJ Thompson (illness) was absent.
