The Kansas City Chiefs and Hallmark are teaming up to create a new, original Christmas movie, titled “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story,” according to a press release issued by the club on Tuesday.
“We are honored to partner with Hallmark on a project as unique as this,” said Chiefs president Mark Donovan. “As a club, we pride ourselves on exploring new ways to grow our brand, as well as connect with new audiences. This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season.”
Here is the rundown of the film’s plot:
Alana Higman (played by Hunter King) is sure that her family’s lifelong history as Kansas City Chiefs superfans makes them a frontrunner to win the team’s “Fan of the Year” contest. Derrick (played by Tyler Hynes), Director of Fan Engagement, is tasked with evaluating how Alana and her family stack up against the other two finalists. As the pair spends time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them but when her grandfather’s (played by Ed Begley Jr.) vintage Chiefs, good luck winter hat goes missing, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick – unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary.
You may remember that last year, the team promoted the postseason with an amusing spoof trailer that included “Voice of the Chiefs” Mitch Holthus, Chiefs offensive linemen Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith and then-Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend.
The main character in the trailer is Hynes, who is set to play a key role in the real thing, which will be entirely filmed in Kansas City.

For those keeping track, at the end of the 2017 season, the Chiefs had won just one Super Bowl championship 48 years prior, never seeing their own player named NFL MVP.
Since 2018, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been named NFL MVP twice, the organization has won three more Super Bowls, the world’s biggest popstar frequents Arrowhead Stadium weekly — and now, the team has become so widely popular that Hallmark has agreed to create a Chiefs-themed Christmas movie.
At a certain point, someone will surely have to wake us all up, right?
