On Thursday, Kansas City’s offensive coordinator gave some notes on four of the team’s receivers.
After the Kansas City Chiefs completed this week’s organized team activities (OTAs) on Thursday, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy spoke to reporters about the new and familiar faces of his receiving corps.

Having already garnered national media attention ahead of his rookie debut, Nagy believes the team’s first-round pick is making great strides during OTAs, saying that even though he’s been sidelined with a hamstring injury, the sessions have “been really good for him.”
“We throw a lot to these guys in practice mentally,” explained the coordinator, “so right now the biggest thing is for him to understand what we do offensively — and then not just one position, but all the positions.
“I think for him, it’s really valuable for him to be able to tell me while we’re standing there in practice where he’s supposed to go and what he’s supposed to do — more so than the physical routes.”
Travis Kelce
Earlier this week on his “New Heights” podcast, the veteran tight end told his brother (and co-host) Jason Kelce that head coach Andy Reid has drawn up “like a hundred new plays” for this season. Nagy was not surprised by Kelce’s remarks.

“That’s always been a staple of Coach Reid’s,” he said. “I think (that’s) what’s fun about the offseason process: doing that.
“[You] keep their minds thinking. So whether it’s a new play or whether it’s something that we want to experiment with — maybe it’s an older play — we’ll do the same thing.”
As far as Nagy is concerned, this is the main building block of what the Chiefs do.
“It keeps these guys not just going through the motions,” he noted, “but also trying to stay great at the foundation of the offense.”
Kadarius Toney
While the Chiefs declined his fifth-year option in the offseason, Toney remains a part of the team’s rotation. After a season of exciting catches (and heartbreaking drops), Nagy remains confident in Toney’s game-changing ability.
“He’s so talented,” he declared. “We as coaches then need to be able to put him in the right spot — to not overdo it with him, but let him kind of go into this and just let things play out. When he has the ball in his hands, he’s special.”
Nikko Remigio
After spending all of 2023 on the team’s Reserve/Injured list, Remigio has been participating in OTAs — and Nagy is hopeful his quiet Fresno State standout will have a healthy season.
“Nikko is a prime example of an undrafted free agent that comes in (and) is an absolute true professional,” he said. “Every day in the meeting rooms and every day at practice, it’s the same speed; it’s the same mentality. You root for guys like that.
“I’m rooting for him. I think he’s a great kid — and it could be a fun story.”
The Chiefs’ voluntary OTAs resume on Tuesday before mandatory minicamp begins June 11.
