Chiefs officially re-sign ERFA DE Malik Herring | NFL Trade Rumors
The Chiefs tendered Herring earlier this offseason and he has now officially signed the tender.
Herring, 26, signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia following the 2021 NFL Draft.
He spent his first year on the non-football injury list. Since then, Herring has made the roster in each of the subsequent seasons.
Herring is scheduled to be a restricted free agent in 2025.
Chiefs DT Isaiah Buggs turns himself in to police, charged with animal cruelty | Yahoo!
Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs turned himself into Tuscaloosa Police on Thursday after following arrest warrants were issued against him for animal cruelty.
According to WIAT Birmingham, Buggs is charged with two counts of second-degree animal cruelty after two starving and dirty dogs were found on a Tuscaloosa property he was renting.
A subsequent report from Patch revealed that Buggs was accused of shoving the Tuscaloosa police chief in April.
Buggs was booked and released after paying a $300 bond for each charge. He has a June 13 hearing set in the case.
Chiefs aren’t top team in NFL, per ESPN’s Football Power Index | The Sporting News
The Chiefs finished No. 2 in ESPN’s first FPI ranking before the 2024 season. Kansas City earned a 5.0 — meaning the Chiefs are five games better than the average NFL team heading into the season.
The only team ranked ahead of Kansas City was the team they beat in the Super Bowl. ESPN gave the 49ers a 5.1 PFI, just slightly ahead of the Chiefs. Kansas City and San Francisco were the only two teams to earn at least a 5.0.
Kansas City’s offense finished second as well behind San Francisco with a 4.1. The defense finished tied for seventh with 0.7, while the special teams tied for third with 0.2.
Shocking Trade Ideas Chiefs Should Pursue Before 2024 Season | Bleacher Report
Help (and Weaken) the San Francisco 49ers by Taking Deebo Samuel off Their Hands
Brandon Aiyuk has earned a new contract. He officially passed Deebo Samuel as their best receiver last season and he’s the younger, more productive player of the two. The problem is that they’ve already paid Samuel a three-year $71.5 million extension and they could be hesitant to pay two wide receivers premium money.
One way out of their dilemma is to find a team that is willing to take on Deebo Samuel after June 1. The Niners would save a whopping $22 million against the cap in 2024 if they could find a trade partner.
Samuel has provided diminishing returns over the last two seasons but still had over 1,100 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Some of Samuel’s success has been due to playing in a Kyle Shanahan system, but Reid is one of the best offensive minds in the game.
Chiefs lead Super Bowl-or-bust teams in Nick Wright’s unique NFL tiers | Fox Sports
“Actual Super Bowl-or-bust”
San Francisco 49ers (12-5; +550), Cincinnati Bengals (9-8; +1300), Baltimore Ravens (13-4; +950) and Los Angeles Rams (10-7; +3200)
Wright’s thoughts: ”All four of these teams are truly Super Bowl or bust. The Rams for the simple reason [that] you don’t know how much longer Matthew Stafford is going to play. As long as McVay’s there and Stafford’s there, any year that doesn’t end in a Super Bowl — because you won one recently — is a disappointment. The Ravens ... [and] the 49ers have been knocking on the door. … We know what the deal is with the Bengals.”
“Above reproach”
Kansas City Chiefs (11-6; +600)
Wright’s thoughts: ”There’s nothing even to say anymore. It’s honestly hurt some of sports commentary that every NFL conversation has this on the frontend or the backend of it.”
John Harbaugh Jokes Travis Kelce Should Retire ‘Soon’ and Start a Family With Taylor Swift | Us Weekly
Once Swift, 34, started dating Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce, also 34, in summer 2023, Harbaugh couldn’t help but wonder if it might expedite the decorated tight end’s exit from the league, giving the coach and his staff one less headache to have to worry about.
“I hope they get married,” Harbaugh said. “I hope they have a bunch of kids. Heck, maybe he’ll get ready to retire here pretty soon to pursue that family aspect of his life.”
Harbaugh continued, “I would encourage that.”
Around the NFL
Bears, top pick Caleb Williams set for HBO’s ‘Hard Knocks’ | ESPN
The Bears have never been featured on “Hard Knocks,” which has followed NFL teams during training camp since 2001. Chairman George McCaskey has long been opposed to allowing HBO access to the Bears as they prepare for the season opener and said that his stance on appearing on the program had not changed during league meetings in March.
“We’re told there is some interest in other teams being on the program and we welcome that interest,” McCaskey said.
Dolphins agree to 3-year, $84.75 million contract extension with WR Jaylen Waddle | Associated Press
The deal includes $76 million guaranteed and keeps Waddle under contract through the 2028 season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the contract details have not been announced.
Waddle will now become one of the highest-paid receivers in the NFL after three productive seasons to start his pro career.
ESPN first reported the deal.
Waddle, drafted sixth overall out of Alabama in 2021, had his third straight 1,000-yard receiving season in 2023. He set a rookie record with 104 catches in 2021, along with 1,015 yards and six touchdowns. He followed that with a career-best 1,356 yards in 2022, averaging a league-high 18.1 yards per catch.
Tarik Cohen will continue his NFL comeback attempt with the Jets | Yahoo!
Cohen, who will turn 29 in July, has not played a down in the NFL since 2020 when he was with the Chicago Bears. The 2017 fourth-round pick suffered a torn ACL, MCL and leg fracture during Week 3 of the 2020 season and missed the entire 2021 campaign recovering.
After being released by the Bears in March 2022 Cohen suffered a torn Achilles tendon during an offseason workout. A year later, he announced he was attempting a comeback and was signed to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad in September 2023.

Running back Keaontay Ingram could have an offensive impact in 2024
Over his three seasons in Kansas City, McKinnon displayed different skills than the rest of the team’s backs. He was a much more fluid rusher than either Pacheco or Edwards-Helaire — and on passing downs, looked more comfortable than either of them.
Ingram has a long way to go to fill the shoes of the savvy veteran. Still, his strengths as a player match up with the role McKinnon filled with the Chiefs.
Frankly, he is the only player on the roster who has shown these specific skills at the NFL level. His combination of fluidity and strength makes him a viable candidate to earn the third spot on the depth chart.
