As the temperatures rise in the middle of the summer in the beginning of training camp so do the temperatures on the field and inside the players. Things got a little testy and emotions boiled over at Kansas City Chiefs training camp on Saturday after Travis Kelce caught a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes.
In a video recorded by fans at training camp, the All Pro tight end seemed to take exception to the defender swatting at the ball after the catch was made and touchdown scored and threw a punch at the defensive player. Scuffles between teammates are common during training camp. It seems especially true when Kelce is involved. This is the second straight day he's given an after the play punch to someone for trying to go after the ball.
Kelcy got into it with a corner back on Friday. There seemed to be more extracurricular activity than usual yesterday, and Kelce was agitated with a referee a few plays earlier in the same offensive session that this altercation had occurred with the defender.
In fairness to Kelce, both defenders made their swipes at the ball well after the play was over and dead. However, their actions were harmless enough and not putting him at any risk for injury. Despite the incidents, the Chiefs were able to carry on with their practice.
After Saturday’s incident, Kelce tweeted quote, Got to be a better teammate. Got to be a better leader. Plain and simple. Unquote. Chiefs coach Andy Read said the fights serve no purpose as the team gears up for a defense of its Super Bowl title.
Fighting is a waste of time. Read said. Quote. You get thrown out of games for doing it. You get hurt out here doing it. But they’re going to jaw. It’s hot, it's humid. They’re going to jaw a little bit. Just as long as there are not punches thrown, we’re all right. Unquote.
I guess coach read didn't see the punches thrown by kelcy. Anyways, getting back to the Kelcy tweet. Why are the athletes and entertainers of today not using proper punctuation? No period at the end of a sentence? Is it cool now days to look dumb? Maybe I'm just getting old. Put a period on the end. Speaking of old, Mr. Jerry Jones, how do you feel about players not putting that little round hole on the end of sentences?
