As week one of the Kansas city chiefs training camp is in the books we released a video breaking down the wide receiver battle for the number one spot heading into week number one of the season. Kadarius Tony, the presumed number one wide out is out with a knee injury and is thought to be out for the remaining of camp. In the video we released for the wide out position battle we did not include second year receiver, Justin Ross.
Ross, in our eyes is not a number one receiver. However, he has had some stand out plays in training camp that could very well land him a roster spot on this team when week one is at the door step. Some in the media that are attending chiefs training camp in person have called Justin ross quote unquote one of the early heroes of camp.
The 4 wide outs we spoke about in our previous video, Tony, More, Valdes scantly and rice are locks to make the roster. That means there are potentially one or two open roster spots for another receiver to make the regular season roster in Kansas City, which means Ross will have to excel during the preseason to claim one of those vacant spots.
After an injury riddled collegiate career and a redshirt rookie season in the N F L, Ross looks poised to ascend up the Chiefs’ depth chart, which Chiefs Kingdom is absolutely loving. Now on his second year with the team, the first year spent on injured reserve, Ross is on the minds of a lot of fans and coaches. Chiefs coach Andy read said quote He’s such a big kid, tall kid, you know said the head coach. He has the ability to go up and get the ball. That type of stuff will benefit him. Unquote.
The former Clemson star is getting better with each practice and with padded sessions now underway, his large 6 foot 4, 205 pound frame is helpful to him. Ross has had a number of outstanding plays, catches mixed with crisp, clean route running. Not to mention the fact that he has been in the mix with the first team, special teams unit. Taking snaps as a gunner on punting plays in practice.
